Studying in Bonn

Bonn is a lively and cosmopolitan city on the banks of the river Rhine in the German state of North-Rhine-Westphalia, with over 2000 years of history. Bonn is the site of 19 United Nations institutions, it is at the same time a popular place of study. Despite of its importance as a federal city, Bonn has remained a charming university town with an extensive network of cycle paths and pedestrian precinct, about 30 museums and a large range of cultural activities. Bonn is located in one of Germany’s warmest regions, which might be one of the reasons why studying here is so appealing.

Accommodation
The University of Bonn provides some student housing through the Student Services (Studentenwerk). However, the offers are very limited and chances to get in are arther low, unfortunatedly. In addition, accommodation in residence halls is available via private institutions and churches:

Transportation
Bonn is connected to three Autobahns (federal highways) and the German rail network. The Bonn Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) is located in the center of the city. The high-speed Cologne-Frankfurt rail line (Inter City Express, ICE) stops on the other side of the river Rhine at the Siegburg/Bonn railway station. Local transport is provided by the Bonn Stadtbahn, which operates two lines connecting Bonn with Cologne. The closest international airport is Cologne/Bonn (CGN) Airport which is connected with Bonn Central Station by bus. The international airports of Frankfurt (FRA) and Düsseldorf (DUS) are connected with Bonn by railway.

The tuition fee of University of Bonn includes a free ticket for public transportation in the Bonn/Cologne area.
